From Manchester, head to the A494 to Bala, from where take the B4403 to Llanuwchllyn.

Anyone wanting a shorter day could simply go up Aran Fawddwy and return by the same scenic route.
In the event we took a second car to a lay-by near the decrepit Hywel Doa Guest House, marked on the map as a PH. This was a good move, as the walk took us 7.5 hours for 21km and 1200 metres of ascent. There was nobody else on the hill.
